Aisha is out

Aisha Randhawa, Speller 50, and a California seventh grader, is out on "perduellion," meaning treason, subversion.

Aisha tied for 22nd place in 2016 and 35th place last year.

Her parents said she's mellow and loves animals, playing piano and being outside. Aisha also loves to swim, write poetry and play golf.

"She's very humble," said her mom, Simi.

Aisha also plays in a jazz band. Her father, Happy, said it's exciting to see her in the finals. Aisha sees words as a mystery to be unlocked, he said.

"I know she worked especially hard," he said. "I couldn't be more proud of her effort."
