After the Confetti Falls...

If you were watching the 2014 Scripps National Spelling Bee on ESPN, you saw some incredible drama unfold on the stage. You watched the confetti fly as Sriram and Ansun were declared co-champions, and you heard them discuss their excitement about the winning words with ESPN reporter Kaylee Hartung.

But what about after the lights go out and the cameras are turned off? What happens next?

Quite a lot actually. Consider:

  • Many of the finalists (including the co-champs) are interviewed after the competition on Thursday night by both local and national media outlets
  • The co-champs went on a media tour in D.C. on Friday, including interviews with The Today Show, CBS This Morning, Inside Edition, ABC World News Tonight and CNN.
  • The other spellers boarded buses on Friday and went on tours of the popular monuments and museums in D.C.
  • Friday night wrapped up with an awards banquet and farewell party/dance for all spellers and their families
  • After a weekend to relax, our co-champs were back on a media tour the next week, which included stops in New York City (LIve with Kelly and Michael, Mashable, Extra, Huffington Post, Fusion TV) and Los Angeles (Jimmy Kimmel Live)

We'll share some of the highlights from the media tour throughout the days and weeks to come. You can see them here on our blog, or follow us on your favorite social media channels utilizing the links on the right side of this page.
