Jashun Paluru, speller 245, finished 10th in the Bee last year. Yesterday, he said he was "feeling pretty excited” about being back in the Finals.

“I don’t want to be overconfident,” he said. “I’m very excited.”

Jashun said he’s been having fun meeting with friends and making new ones.

The Indiana seventh grader misspelled oxytylote, a fleshy point on a sponge shaped like a common pin. He is out, and the first casualty this round.
