When pronouncer Dr. Jacques Bailly asked the first speller if he was ready, he wasn't so sure.
"Maybe," said Christopher O'Connor (Speller 5), an Arizona seventh grader.
He spelled "pultaceous" incorrectly, and was eliminated from the Bee.
"Awww," Christopher said when he heard the bell.
