Join the Spelling Bee Live Story with Snapchat

Want to keep up with the Scripps National Spelling Bee from inside the competition?

For the first time, Snapchat will be covering the action via a Live Story that includes Snaps taken from inside and around the Bee on Thursday.

Spellebrities and their fans will see the option to submit their Snaps to the “Spelling Bee” Live Story for possible inclusion and, when watching the Live Story, be able to experience the excitement and action from the many unique perspectives of participants, hosts and fans on the ground. The Live Story will update throughout the day, to capture the story of the event from beginning to end.

Snapchat will also be making available a selection of filters, the artistic, location-based overlays that can be added to photo and video Snaps.

Savannah Gatts, speller 192 and an avid Snapchat user, said she likes the filters because it's a fun way to express herself.

Scott Isaacs, the 1989 champion who coaches Colorado spellers, said he loves the idea of creatively sharing he’s at the Bee right on his Snaps.

"I think this is a wonderful idea," he said. "I imagine it'll be very well received.”

If you're at the Spelling Bee, it's easy to use the filters and submit your Snaps to the Live Story. You'll find the filters by swiping left from the camera screen after you take your Snap.

To submit to the Live Story, just tap the send arrow on your Snap and choose to submit to the Spelling Bee Live Story. If your Snap is selected, it will be included in the Live Story and available for all Snapchatters to see globally right on their phones for 24 hours.

Also be sure to follow “scrippsbee” on Snapchat. This is our first year covering the Bee with Snapchat, and our first Live Story.
