Our tiniest speller

Edith Fuller, 6, is the youngest speller in the Bee. Wearing a black bow in her hair, she spelled second-to-last in Round 2 on Tuesday.

Her word, nyctinasty, means movement of a flat plant part (as the opening and closing of some flowers) that is associated with daily changes of temperature or light intensity.

Edith asked Dr. Bailly a couple questions: she wanted to know the definition and the language of origin.

She spelled it correctly, high-fiving the other spellers on the way back to her seat.
