Srivarun Hathwar, Speller 494 and a Virginia sixth grader, is out.
Srivarun said he was inspired to spell after two of his cousins -- brothers Sriram and Jairam Hathwar -- won the Scripps National Spelling Bee in 2014 and 2016, respectively.
His word was "rigmarole," a complex and ritualistic procedure that is characterized more by form than genuine meaning.
