Alice Liu, speller 191, was feeling “so excited” to get to the Finals.
“I feel like my dream’s finally come true,” the Missouri fifth grader said.
She planned to relax a bit before getting back on stage.
She was nervous, she said, but part of her said not to worry.
“After you spell your words correctly, your smile could not be any bigger,” she said.
She spelled marquisette, a sheer meshed fabric of open weave used for clothing, curtains and mosquito nets.
