Mattie Cull, speller 28, wasn't sure of herself when she heard "abstinence" was what she had to spell.
"Can you give me a different word?" she asked Dr. Bailly.
"I'm hoping you'll get another word," he said.
The Newfoundland sixth grader got it right.
Cameron Keith, speller 29, was unsure of his word, ""cameist." He spelled it in a rush, as time ran out. The Colorado fourth grader got it right.
