Sometimes, you notice themes with the spelling bee words. This morning, we've had a lot of place names or words relating to place names.
They include Santiago and Valparaiso, both cities in Chile, and Andes, Sarajevo and Iberian.
And Joseph Moran, speller 199, just spelled "Ottawa" correctly. It's a city and the capital of Canada, in southeastern Ontario, on a river of the same name and the Rideau Canal.
The Idaho seventh grader tied for 323rd place last year and 41st place in 2017.
Catherine Mew, speller 203, followed closely thereafter with "Trinidad," an island of the southeastern West Indies located off the coast of northeastern Venezuela.
