We've just lost some spellers. Divya Aggarwal, speller 122 and a Michigan eighth grader misspelled "succussatory" and is out. Maxwell Meyer, speller 129 and a Minnesota eighth grader, misspelled "dulia." He tied for 11th place last year.
Speller 181, Shiv Dewan, misspelled "somma."
Shiv said he felt honored to be competing.
"There's such great camaraderie with all the spellers," he said.
"And speller 233, Shourav Dasari, misspelled "campagnol."
The remaining spellers will be live at 8 p.m. tonight.
