We've lost two more spellers.
Speller 180, Daniel Chen, misspelled carosella, a fennel grown for its edible young stems which are used in salads — called also Italian fennel.
Speller 176, Maggie Sheridan, misspelled saccharomycete, a yeast fungus.
Maggie is a triplet, and bested one of her sisters to get to the Bee.
"We're just thrilled, it's unbelievable," Maggie's dad, Mark, said of being at the Bee. "The adrenaline's flowing."
Maggis said she was surprised and excited to be a finalist.
"I'm happy that I've gotten this far," she said. "I'm pleasantly surprised."
