Kate Miller (Speller 232) correctly spelled "weevil" -- any of numerous snout beetles in which the head is elongated and usually curved downward to form a snout bearing the jaws at the tip.

"Snout beetles. Excellent," Kate said.

The Abilene, Texas eighth grader tied for 51st place in 2012 and 43rd place last year.
