Announcing the Bee's New Presenting Sponsor: Kindle

Scripps National Spelling Bee and KindleThe Bee is all abuzz this week — we are excited to announce Kindle as the presenting sponsor of the 2016 Scripps National Spelling Bee. The Bee's mission to help students cultivate the English language skills they will need to succeed in life aligns well with Kindle's own purpose, and both brands recognize the importance of reading to a child's lifelong achievement. In our experience, the best spellers are great readers!

As the presenting sponsor of the 89th annual national spelling bee, Kindle will have a presence at Bee Week as well as during the competition broadcasts on ESPN. This May, approximately 280 spellers from all 50 U.S. states and several countries across the globe will travel to the Washington, D.C., area for a week filled with fun events, sight-seeing and, of course, the Scripps National Spelling Bee. The national competition will take place May 24-26 at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in National Harbor, Maryland, and ESPN will broadcast live in primetime from the Finals on Thursday, May 26.

Along with the presenting sponsorship at the national competition, Kindle will work with the Bee throughout the year to integrate its technologies with the materials that teachers receive each fall when their schools enroll in the spelling bee program each. Kindle e-readers come equipped with features and functionalities that can help students dive into more challenging books and learn new and necessary words along the way. Word Wise, a Kindle feature that automatically displays short and simple definitions above difficult words, is designed to enhance reading comprehension and vocabulary skills for developing readers, and the Bee is excited to use these and other Kindle assets to provide teachers, parents and students with even better spelling and vocabulary materials.
