"Jacopever" bested Tharein Potuhera, speller 140, a Nebraska eighth grader. But before the finals, he said he was happy with getting this far.
"It's been a pleasant surprise. I was not sure I would make it in."
Tharein said his friends had offered to pay him if he dabbed on television. He'd already made more than $100 by doing it twice on Wednesday.
"This enterprise has been pretty profitable," he said. "Even if I don't win, I'm certainly going to have some amount of money."
