Catherine Chung, speller 219, grew up in New York, but moved to South Korea a year ago. The sixth grader is representing that country in the bee.
She said she was nervous about the competition, but wasn't expecting to even get this far.
"I'm happy with whatever happens," she said. "I was really surprised. The preliminary test was really hard. I was extremely nervous."
She misspelled "vulsellum" and is out.
