Mitchell is out

Mitchell Robson, speller 114, had more than one memorable exchange with Dr. Bailly. "I hope I'm like kind of right or something," he said as he approached the mic. "We're with you," Dr. Bailly replied. But Mitchell misspelled "Wehrmacht," and is out. In the first round of the finals, while spelling "esquisse," he asked Dr. Bailly if there was anything else he could get ouy of him. "OK, yeah, I get it," he said when the time was running low and the timer beeped. In an earlier round, he asked if his word was French. "It's from French," Dr. Bailly replied. "It's English." "We're doing an English spelling bee," Mitchell countered. "Some people wonder," Dr. Bailly replied. Before the finals, Mitchell said he was confident he would do well, but not that he would win. "The best spellers, what they do, they apply what they know," he said. "I'm going to use my knowledge of language patterns. ...I'll tackle it word by word. Right or wrong, I'm going to do my best."
