Sylvie Lamontagne, speller 30, got a long standing ovation when she misspelled "chaoborine."
She took a deep breath when she came to the mic.
"Helps, doesn't it?" Dr. Bailly said to her.
"What?" Sylvie asked.
"Helps to take a deep breath."
"I thought that was my word," Sylvie replied.
"I hope you won't wish it were," Dr. Bailly replied.
Sylvie is a Colorado eighth grader. She said coming back to the bee was different, but also similar.
"It doesn't get any less difficult the second time," she said. "It's been really different and really similar in many ways. You sort of know what happens. You still get nervous."
