Where do they come from?
The words for the Scripps National Spelling Bee come from Merriam-Webster Unabridged. So any time a word is added to the dictionary, it's fair game for the spellers.
Maybe we'll see Chiweenie (a cross between a Chihuahua and a dachshund), glamping (glamorous camping) or hate-watch make their way into the Bee, too. After all, they're all in the dictionary now, too.
