When spellers want to know if they know the parts of that make up a word, they have to know a few things -- the root they're asking, what it means and the language of origin.
Speller 406, Cameron Glogower, tried to get an answer anyway.
"Does it have to do with the word queue?" he asked, hearing "queuer." (Or maybe cue?)
"Can I get a little more information?" asked Kevin Moch, who is serving as associate pronouncer.
"Does it have to do with the word queue?" Cameron repeated.
"Language, meaning?" Mr. Moch prodded.
"Never mind," responded Cameron, a North Carolina eighth grader.
He misspelled "queuer," one that is in a waiting line of persons or vehicles, and is out.
