Can you answer my question about a specific eligibility concern?

In general, the Bee will not render opinions on eligibility unless the question pertains directly to a student who qualifies for the 2016 Scripps National Spelling Bee. If there are steps you can take now to preclude ineligibility, take those steps. If your student has qualified for the 2016 Scripps National Spelling Bee and has eligibility concerns, the student\'s parents should promptly contact the national office.

Can I use an older competition list for my school spelling bee?

We recommend that you use only the School Competition List for the current school year for your school bee, as it draws words from the current year's School Spelling Bee Study List. For example, for the 2026-2027 school year we recommend that your school bee officials use only the 2027 School Competition List to conduct your school-wide spelling bee.

I am responsible for coordinating a district spelling bee. Is it okay to use the School Competition List at my district bee?

Please contact your local spelling bee sponsor to obtain the 2016 District Pronouncer Guide.

The 2016 District Pronouncer Guide is intended for use by officials who are conducting an intermediate-level spelling bee. An intermediate-level spelling bee is a bee that takes place after a school bee but before a final local bee.
