Bruhat Soma is the 2024 Scripps National Spelling Bee Champion!

Bruhat, a 12-year-old speller from St. Petersburg, Florida, representing the Rays Baseball Foundation and Rowdies Soccer Fund, competed in the second-ever Spell-off to win this year's Bee.

 

His winning word is "abseil," meaning "a descent in mountaineering by means of a rope looped over a projection above."

look back at bee week!

Bee Week 2024 took place at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center in National Harbor, Maryland. On May 26, 245 spellers from across the country and around the world arrived in the Washington, D.C., area. For these spellers, Bee Week included much more than three days of nationally-televised competition.
