Simone Kaplan, Speller 60, is a Florida sixth grader. And our fashion icon.
Simone tied for 189th place last year and that set her into a bee frenzy.
Now, she spelled "Locarno" correctly. It's a nonaggression pact or other arrangement for international peace and security usually based upon a mutual guarantee of borders by and provision for arbitration of disputes among the signatory nations.
Simone has a whole closet full of bee-adorned clothing. Today, she has on a bee dress and shoes, as well as bee earrings.
A family friend had made the queen bee dress she was wearing yesterday. Simone said her mom is her stylist.
“I've been scrubbing the Internet since we left the Bee last year,” said her mom, Alana Kaplan. “If there's a bee on clothing, we own it.”
Alana and Simone's sister, Maya, were also bee-dazzled for the competition.
