Here's a quick pattern: three words in a row had homonyms.
Speller 246, Wyatt Opperman, had the word "comity," which means friendly civility : mutual consideration between or as if between equals. It could be confused with "comedy."
Wyatt misspelled it, and is out.
Speller 247, Johanna Foulk, had the word "littoral," of or relating to or on or near a shore, especially of the sea. It could be confused for "literal." Johanna got it right.
And speller 248, Jaeho Lee, had the word "croci," bulbs, plants or flowers of a large genus of perennial herbs widely cultivated for their solitary long-tubed flowers.
It could be confused for "croaky," but Jaeho got it right.
A few spellers later, there was yet another -- "anise," an herb cultivated for its aromatic seeds. Its homonyms are "anas" and "annus," and it could be confused with "anis."
But speller 266, Bhavana Madini, spelled it right.
