What a great word

One of the most fun things about the Scripps National Spelling Bee is all the awesome vocabulary words. Jeremy Slywczak, speller 351, got a good one: "verbicide."

It means a deliberate distortion or destruction of the sense of a word.

As in, Punning can be a gruesome form of verbicide.

The Ohio eighth grader, in his second Bee, got it right.
