Funny sentence, No. 1

Nathan Ostermann, Speller 10, was the recipient of our first funny sentence, for the word "aphorism," which means a terse and often ingenious formulation of a truth or sentiment usually in a single sentence : an adage.

Clark reminded his audience of the aphorism, "When you don't have real fruit, serve them plastic," meaning when you can't remember a real aphorism, make one up on the spot and no one will know the difference.

The California seventh grader tied for 189th place last year. This year, he misspelled and is out. So far, three spellers are out.
