The California sixth grader is in his first Bee. He misspelled "ixodid," of, relating to, or caused by hard ticks (such as the deer tick and American dog tick).
Darian Douglas, speller 169, is out as well.
The seventh grader from Jamaica got a standing ovation from several spellers on stage. He was also in his first Bee.
Darian misspelled "diallage," a dark green or bronze-colored laminated mineral of the pyroxene group common in certain igneous rocks.
